The Badge shows the Arms of Maarten Harpertsz Tromp (1598-1653) and his son Cornelis Maartensz Tromp (1629-1691).
Both served as Lieutenant Admiral Generals and won great distinction as commanders of the Fleet. The elder Tromp fell in the Battle of Terheyde 10 August 1653.
