Belgian Coffee Hag Albums

Thank you for purchasing this CD containing the information of the Koffie/Café Hag albums from the 1930s for Belgium.

The albums are introduced with some background information on the author, publisher and other basic information. An index of the pictures in the books is given, with links to the appropriate pdf files on the CD, where the image and description can be found.

Whenever known, information and images of different variations of the images, texts or other aspects of the books is provided.

All files are clickable from the index pages, but can be opened separately.

Overview of albums :

The Coffee Hag company issued similar albums in several European countries. The series for Germany and Switzerland were started before the First World War and were restarted in the interbellum. All other countries started in the late 1920s or early 1930s. Only the Swiss series were continued after 1945 and were issued until the early 1960s. The following albums were issued :

  • Germany old series : 6 albums with several reprints, plus stamps for a 7th album
  • Germany new series : 10 albums with many reprints and variations
  • Switzerland old series: 4 albums, with several reprints
  • Switzerland new series : 19 albums, with multiple reprints. More than 60 albums are known
  • Netherlands : 2 albums, loose sheets with multiple storage options
  • Belgium : 6 albums, 3 Dutch and 3 French albums (identical)
  • Poland : 1 album, 2nd album planned, but not issued
  • Danzig : 1 album
  • Norway : 1 album and one reprint
  • Sweden : 1 album
  • Denmark : 1 album
  • Yugoslavia : 1 album
  • Austria : 1 album, with additional luxury edition
  • Czechoslovakia : 1 album, with additional luxury edition
  • England / Ireland : 1 album
  • France (as Café Sanka ): 6 albums (of 40 planned)

In total around 125 different albums were published between 1914-1955. Albums for the Baltic states, Italy as well as a second album for Poland and an 11th for Germany were planned, but never issued. The French series stopped after 6 albums of the planned 40. More than 12500 different stamps were issued, making it the largest heraldic publication of the 20th century.

Due to political changes the arms represented in the albums are now in 28 different countries. This includes Indonesia and Surinam, which were represented in the Dutch albums.

This CD is the sixth in a series dealing with all the Coffee Hag albums issued in Europe between 1914 and 1955.
