The oldest arms from Schneeberg date from 1534 and show the miner's tools above three small mountains. The first symbolise mining, the second are the Mühlberg (green for its forests), Schneeberg (white, Schnee=snow) and Wolfsberg (blue for the many streams at its base).

On August 24, 1665 Prince-Elector Johann Georg II from Sachsen granted the above arms. The main shield shows St. John Baptist, the local patron saint. The shield on the right shows the previous arms, whereas the shield on the left shows the arms of the principality of Sachsen(-Wittenberg) at the time. The two supporters are two miners, the crest is derived from the crest of Sachsen.
