The chief shows a white dove as arepresentation of the Holy Spirit, thus referring to the name of the basilica.

The blue field is taken as a symbol for Our Lady of Guadalupe, patron of the Parish. The gold cross stuck in the rock referes to the monumental Calvary sculpted in the frontis of the Basilica and evokes the emblem that St. Arnold Janssen chose when he founded the Society of the Divine Word ( Societas Verbi Divini - SVD ), the missionary congregation that serves this community from its origins. This Cross rises over the hill surrounded by water, allegory of the shield of Pope [[Pius XII]] who granted the church to the basilical dignity The base refers to the so-called Laguna Guadalupe that surrounded the grounds where the basilica stands today, in the north of [[Buenos Aires]] city, a town whose arms also exhibits the Holy Spirit dominating over the waters.

The star and the red four-petal flower 'nahui ollin', also appear in the image of "María de Guadalupe".

The external ornaments are typical for a basilica.

The motto "Veni Sancte Spiritus" meansm ''Go with the HoOly Spirit'' and thus refers to the name of the basilica.
