The arms show a doe, derived from the arms of the Counts of Tierstein, who originated from the village of Gipf.
The arms were already proposed as village arms in 1915 by Walther Merz, who lived in the village. But it was only in 1934 that the municipality started to use the arms on official papers. The first design, however, looked more lake a dog than a deer... so the design was changed in the 1950s.
