11th Aviation Regiment, US Army: Difference between revisions

Coat of Arms: Ultramarine blue is the primary color associated with aviation and is symbolic of the sky. Additionally, the silver wings allude to combat readiness and also simulate the numeral "11," the designation of the unit. Crest: Yellow, green and red recall the United States Army Vietnam Campaign streamer and combat service in that country. The bamboo is reminiscent of the United States Army Vietnam Campaign Medal. The unit received five Vietnam Crosses of Gallantry. The swords are adapted from that award and are crossed to represent strength in military preparedness. The arrowheads symbolize battle action and denote the Valorous Unit Award and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. The bamboo, indicative of Vietnam, also signifies the unit’s several Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medals awarded the unit.

The Coat of Arms was originally authorized on 17 November 1987. It was amended on 20 December 1988 to add the crest. On 24 April 1991 the coat of arms was amended to correct the blazon of the crest. The Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the 11th Combat Aviation Battalion on 3 August 1967. It was redesignated for the 11th Aviation Regiment on 17 November 1987.
