The lyphad and swords on the shield represent the 1461 battle of Ballymacdane, while the golden sands are emblematic of Tramore's famous strand. The town's landmark pillars are also represented on the shield. The motto Thalassa thalassa which means “The sea, the sea” is repeated in Greek above the shield.
