Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on October 12, 1949.
The city of Olpe was one of the main cities in the State of Köln, and a large part of the district belonged to Köln. The cross in the right half of the arms is the cross of Köln. The Left half shows the arms of the Lords of Fürstenberg, who ruled as governors for the bishops of Köln several territories in the present district. They also founded the large Schnellenberg castle in the district.
