German | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in the 1960s and are based on the older seal of the town, which showed a shepherd without a shield. Sheep rearing was an important activity in the area for many centuries, hence the choice for the shepherd. The colours are derived from the colours of the State of Münster and the State of Oldenburg, to which the town historically belonged.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
