HART BEI GRAZ
State : Steiermark
District : Graz-Umgebung
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on April 15, 1996.
"Hart" in old names does often not mean "hard" but "wood", implying land clearance in the times of settlement. In Hart, there is the small hall of Reinthal, going back to the Renaissance. It was built by one Bartholomäus Rues (Rose), a lawyer, and he had his beautifully simple coat of arms displayed there. This makes up the main charge of the arms.
Hart has its woods to this day. As the municipality had the different species of tree lichen scientifically examined, a bordure of lichen was included in its coat of arms.
