De spiegel is beladen met het familiewapen van Johan de Witt, in sinopel boven een haas, achtervolgd door een hazewind en beneden een brak, de kop gericht naar de haas. Alles van zilver. Het fregat vaart op een zee, bestaande uit een golvende schildvoet, golvend gedwarsbalkt van 3 stukken, zilver en azuur.

+If a naval ship is named after a person, it is customary to simply use the relevant family coat of arms as the emblem. In this case, however, this met with objections from the naval leadership. The coat of arms De Witt (the Grand Pensionary's ancestors were apparently rather hunted) shows 2 dogs chasing a hare, a typical rural scene that has little affinity with the navy or the sea. It indeed seemed appropriate, provided that the family crest would be incorporated in the emblem in some way, to deviate from the general rule and look for a different symbolism. In addition, a namesake of the landing platform dock soon came into view, a frigate built in the 17th century, so in the time of Johan de Witt. By emphasizing the representation of the hull and applying a small version of the offending family coat of arms to the transom, a beautiful and functional emblem was finally created.
