The arms show in the first quarter four swords, taken from the arms of the Guzman family, medieval Lords of Caleruega.

The second quarter refers to Saint Dominic (1170–1221), founder of the Dominican Order, who was born in the village as son of Jane of Aza and Felix(?) of Guzman. Jane had, according to legend, a dream in which she saw a white dog with black spots holding a torch to illuminate the right path of God. This probably is a later invention, as the order founded by St. Dominic, the Dominicans, dressed in white and black and were nicknamed the Dogs of God (from the Latin ''Domini canis''). As the order spread, its ideas (torch) travelled all over the world (globe).

The base shows the Tower of Guzman, the ruin of the castle of the Guzman family, with wheatears and grapes for the agriculture character of the present village. The base shows the Gromejón river, which is known for its crayfish.
