ELS PRATS DE REI
Region : Catalonia
Province : Barcelona
Catalan | Escut caironat quarterat: 1r i 4t. d'argent, 3 roses de gules; 2n. i 3r. d'or, 4 pals de gules. Per timbre una corona mural de vila. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
These arms have been officially granted on 16th June 1983.
The roses in the arms are a canting element: they allude to the name Prats ("meadows" in Catalan). The royal arms of Catalonia-Aragon (four pales Gules on Or) symbolize that it was a royal town: the king Alphonse I granted its chart in 1188; in fact, Els Prats de Rei means literally "The King's Meadows".
