Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on April 11, 1843.
The arms are those of the Van Steelant family, the oldest known Lords of Loppem. Filips van Steelant was mentioned as Lord of Loppem until his death in 1270. The family was still mentioned as Lords of Loppem in the late 15th century.
