The angel riding a horse, dressed as a Roman soldier, is the traditional sign on the arms of the town; it's the representation of the Saint Angel, the local patron saint, reminding when the town suffered a plague and an angel came to cut out the epidemic with his sword. The bezants Or on Gules are the arms of the Montcada family, marquises of Aitona and lords of the town. Seròs was conquered to the Arabs in 1149 by the count-king Ramon Berenguer III, and that's symbolized by the royal arms of Catalonia-Aragon (four pales Gules on Or); the town belonged to the Crown until 1212, when it was given to the Montcadas.
