The arms were adopted on November 18, 1931. | |||
Bachenbülach became a separate municipality only in 1849. The first arms mentioned for the village date from a book from 1674 and show a diagonally divided shield in red and silver, basically the arms of the canton with the blue changed into red. The new municipality, however, did not take up these old arms, but opted for a shield with a 'Kehrnagel' a kind of pin used in a plough. The first time the arms appear is on a borderstone from 1853. Why this, unique, symbol was chosen is not known. | |||
In 1870 the pin appears on a divided shield (like the one from 1674) in the church in Bülach. This composition was also used by the municipality on the official stamp and letters until 1931. As the combination of a white pin on a half white shield was not heraldically correct, the arms were changed in 1931. | |||
