The bordure wavy argent symbolises the Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and the Straits of Mackinac  which surrounds the diocese.

The two 6-pointed stars are a modified form of the Carmelite coat of arms represent the Church of Gaylord, under the patronage of Our Lady of  Mount Carmel; the two stars also represent the two dioceses Grand Rapids and Saginaw, which yielded territories to establish the diocese of Gaylord in 1971.


====Origin/meaning====
The chevronel surmounting the golden Cross symbolize the new presence of the Church of Our Lord in the city of Gaylord, the city highest in elevation in Michigan´s Lower Peninsula.
