Since 1359 the town belonged to the Hospitaller knights of Ascó, and at the end of the 15<sup>th</sup> century it became the centre of an own Hospitaller command. The arms show a towered wall with an open door that symbolizes the town, surmounted by a star Argent (a reference to the name of the town).
