===Origin/meaning===
===Origin/meaning===
The arms were officially granted on October 3, 1972.

The arms were officially granted on October 3, 1972.
The green alder branch in chief is canting for the former name Erling (Erle=alder). The lion is the diminished arms of the Counts of Andechs-Meranien (which showed a lion above an eagle), who played an important role in the history of the region until the middle of the 13th century. After the Andechs family died out in 1248, the county of Andechs came into the possession of the Wittelsbach family. Duke Albrecht III had the Benedictine abbey built on the site of Andechs Castle in 1458. The Andechs arms are also part of the [[Abbey of Andechs]] arms. The colors white and blue are from the House of Wittelsbach.
