Rendsburg received city rights in 1250, and the first seal dates probably from the same time, but it is not known until 1334. The second, 14<sup>th</sup> century, seal showed the same image; the Reinholdsburg castle, built on the border between the counties Schleswig and Holstein. The city remained of strategic importance until the 19<sup>th</sup> century. The small arms of the Counts of Holstein was added in the gate in 1580.During the centuries the number of waves, the shape of the castle and the colours have changed many times. The present arms were granted on December 30, 1964, in the main colours of Holstein. | |||
