 The arms were officially granted on April 10, 1858.
-Teterow received city rights in 1272 from Nikolaus I, Lord of Werle. The city remained in the hands of the Lords of Werle until 1436, when it became a possession of the Dukes of Mecklenburg. The arms are based on the seal of the city known since 1353 and show the helmet and crest of the Lords of Werle. The star and the two crosses are probably used on the seal as decoration, without any further meaning.
