===Origin/meaning===
===Origin/meaning===
The oldest known seal of the city (German name Steinau an der Oder) dates from 1310 and already shows the agle and castle. All later seals showed the same composition, but never in a shield. Only in the 19th century the two items were placed in a shield. The eagle is the eagle of Silezia, the castle probably indicates the city itself. The composition thus did not change, but the size and shape of the two items as well as small changes in the colours varied widely during the years.
