===Origin/meaning===
York is the former name of Toronto, where the ship is located. The ship takes its name from the first British commercial craft on Lake Ontario. The badge design assigned by the Admiralty to the current ship contains in its centre the white rose of York. The Motto in French translates as "Good hope".
The Blazon of the badge was confirmed by the Canadian Heraldic Authority on December 15, 2008.
