The arms have been used by the city since the 15<sup>th</sup> century on the local seals. The arms were officially granted in 1647 by Emperor Ferdinand III. Even though the seal and old arms show St. Mary Immaculata, the arms were officially described as showing St. Anne. In 1902 the description of the arms was corrected.
