Derichsweiler had its own village council already in the 15<sup>th</sup> century. At the end of the 15<sup>th</sup> century the sheriff used a special village seal. This seal showed the lion of [[Jülich]], wit a star between the tail and the side of the shield. The village had now its own (lower) court. The upper part showed again the lion of Jülich, and in the lower part a thistle with two other flowers. The origin of the flowers is not known. This seal has been used for a long time and when in 1965 Derichsweiler wanted to adopt arms, they were based on this seal. The arms were, however, never officially adopted by the local council.
