Line 25: Line 23:
A new seal was made after the addition of Birkesweiler, Mariaweiler and Hovern to the Derichsweiler judicial area in the second half of the 16th century. The village had now its own (lower) court. The upper part showed again the lion of Jülich, and in the lower part a thistle with two other flowers. The origin of the flowers is not known. This seal has been used for a long time and when in 1965 Derichsweiler wanted to adopt arms, they were based on this seal. The arms were, however, never officially adopted by the local council. They have thus never been used.
