The arms were officially granted in 1910.

The two golden bars in the arms are derived from the arms of the Lords of Gemmingen, who owned the village and estate of Ittlingen from 1355-1806. To distinguish the arms of the village with the arms of the family, the State Archives proposed in 1910 the use of an escutcheon with a plough iron, symbol of the agricultural character of the village at the time. This proposal was accepted and the arms were adopted.
