The College originally bore the arms of the founder (William Archdeacon of Durham in 1249), " r, a fleur-de-lys azure, each leaf charged with a mullet of the field," but now the College uses the arms attributed to King Alfred and Edward the Confessor, namely, " azure, a cross patonce between five martlets or."
