The arms are based on the arms of the arms of the Guignecouort family, known from the 12th and 13<sup>th</sup> century. These arms showed a shield with a maze. The original colours are not known and it was decided to choose silver and black. The free canton shows a tree. This tree is taken as a symbol for a typical local habit. The village for a long time had no church and thus also no cemetery. The local dead were buried in a neighbouring village. On the way to the cemetery it was the habit to carve a cross in a large tree close to the road. This tree became known as the tree of the dead.
