Oberbrechen historically belonged to Trier until 1803. The oldest known seal of the village dates from 1538 and shows the red cross of <a href=t/trier|Trier]] and the local saint (St. Felicitas) as a supporter. In a later seal the arms showed an escutcheon with 7 heads, symbolising the seven sons of St. Felicitas.
