The arms were officially granted on January 18, 1958.

Historically the village was a possession of the Lords of Flersheim, later of the Counts of Sayn-Wittgenstein. This is reflected in the arms which show the bars of the first and the lion of the latter rulers.

The seal of the village  from 1774 shows the complete arms of the Counts of Sayn-Wittgenstein.

In the mid 20th century the seal and the arms showed the local church standing above a wavy bar. These arms were never granted.
