The arms were granted on June 28, 1989.

The arms symbolise the Krinkberg hill in the municipality. it is a man-made hill, and an archaeological monument. In 1885 a sword and a large amount of coins was found. The coins come from different countries and show the trade with the Empire of Charlemagne (as shown in the coin labelled Carolus) and far-away cities such as Dorestad (as symbolised by the other coin, Dorestad is now [[Wijk bij Duurstede]] in the Netherlands). The sword symbolises the many arms found in the graves in the hill, dating from the 7th until the 9th century.
