The arms are based on the old seal of the village, which was designed just after 1945. The three stars represent the villages of Hammer, Mannhagen and Panten, which were combined to the new municipality of Panten in 1938. The figure s a shepherd, symbolising that the main economic activity in the area historically was cattle raising. The shepherd holds a hammer, which symbolises the copper factory in Hammer. The horn was a normal attribute for the shepherds.
