The arms were officially granted to the Amt and court of Landeck in 1541 by Margrave Georg Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach. When the court was moved from Landeck castle to the town of Thalmässing in the 18<sup>th</sup> century, the town adopted the arms. On April 27, 1965 the arms were again officially granted.
