The arms were officially granted on October 16, 1813.

The village received its own council in 1465 and used already in the 16th century its own seal. The seal showed in a divided shield on the right half the arms of the Abbey in Kempten, to which the village belonged. These arms were divided horizontally of red and blue. The left part showed a flower on a small mountain, the flower most likely being a mountain-gentian. The present arms were granted in 1813, where the arms of the abbey were removed, except for the colours. The flower was somehow changed to the two flowers, which were first described as cornflowers, but are now described as poppies.
