History: Raised at Fiji Islands November 1941 as a Maritime Reconnaissance Squadron which has been the role of the Squadron ever since. During World War II it operated in the Pacific. Post War it flew operations from Fiji until relocating for the first time to New Zealand and the base at Whenuapai, Auckland, which still is the Squadron's Base.
