The arms were proposed in 1956 and later adopted by the Bensheim council as village arms. | |||
The oldest seal of the village dates from 1507 and shows the local patron saint, St. Nicholas. The second seal, known since 1622, shows the same saint, but now as a supporter behind the arms of the Counts of Katzenelnbogen (see image below). A third seal shows the same composition. | |||
