The black circle with the cross refers to the legends around a cave in the Veitenstein rock, a 10 meter high sandstone rock. The rock probably was already used in pre-Christian times as a place of worship and in a cave under the rock many old inscriptions have been found. The cave should also have been inhibited by dwarfs.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 24, 1982.

The two piles stand for the many places in the municipality which end on -stein (stone), -brunn (well) and -berg (hill). The golden rose in blue is taken from the arms of the Lords of Guttenberg, who played a major role in the local history.

The millstone refers to the importance sandstone quarries and stone industry in the municipality. Production of millstones was one of the typical products of the area.
