The arms show the symbol of St. John Baptist, a head on a platter. The saint is the patron saint of the local church, which dates from around the 10-11<sup>th</sup> century. The village became a town (Markt) in 1413, but the oldest known seal dates from 1525. As all later seals and images, it showed the head and platter.
