Origin/meaning
The arms of Bishop Hagan are a combination of family associations and religious aspirations. The first quarter with three silver fleurs-de-lis on a blue field honors the Blessed Virgin Mary. The gold lion on a red field in the second quarter is adapted from the arms of a Foley family and represent here the family name of his mother. The arm in armour grasping a sword all in gold on a green field in the third quarter is adapted from the arms of a Hagan family and thus represent the last name of the bishop.
The silver Maltese cross on a blue field in the fourth quarter honors St. John the Baptist, patron saint of Bishop Hagan.
