Waldenburg became the capital of the Princes of Hohenlohe in 1253 and received city rights in 1330. The oldest seal dates from the 16<sup>th</sup> century and already shows the present composition. The upper half shows a canting forest (Wald), the lower shows a leopard derived from the arms of the Hohenlohe dynasty.
