===Origin/meaning===
The arms were officially adopted on April 9, 1968.

The arms were designed as part of a contest issued in 1968 for new (first) arms of Mexicali.

At the top of the shield is an anagram that says (MEXI/CALI) separated by a line representing the international division between Mexico and California.

The phrase "Tierra Cálida" refers to the warmth of the population and the climatic conditions of the care of Mexicali. The latter is also symbolised by the red sun.

The ocher color represents the desert, the blue the waters of the Gulf of California and the red represents the Colorado River.

The mountain represents the El Centinela hill, which was used by natives and exploiters to guide them through the desert. The cotton represents the agricultural product of the Mexicali valley.

The cogwheel and atom represent the science and the industries of the city.

The bird alludes to a bird that is moving through the skies representing the method that the first settlers used when arriving to the lands of the city.
