The wolf is an old medieval symbol, which is also found on the coat of arms granted to the people of Lugoj in 1551 by Queen Isabella, and symbolizes the bravery of the city's inhabitants. The crown represents the nobility and the fact that the coat of arms was awarded by a character with royal dignity.

The sun and the moon are ancient symbols of eternity, wealth and abundance. The lyre symbolizes the musical and cultural tradition of the inhabitants, the town being known in the past as the cultural capital of Banat.

The two crenellated towers and the bridge symbolize the Romanian Lugoj and the German Lugoj, unified between 1793-1795. The three mounds symbolize the hills on the outskirts of the village, cultivated with vines since the eighteenth century.

The mural crown means that the locality has the rank of municipality.
