Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on November 25, 1960, March 16, 1962 and again on March 26, 1965.
The horse is a symbol for the town as a major trading centre between Sweden and Norway for many centuries. The arms did not change, but were re-granted after the addition of the other municipalities (that used no arms). Literature:
