Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 3, 1939.

The wavy bend is a canting element, Beck=Bach is stream and symbolises in this case for the Dortmund-Ems channel in the municipality. The two plough irons symbolise the agricultural character of the village at the time. The colours are derived from the colours of the State of Münster, as the village historically belonged to Münster.

Another explanation for the plough irons is that they represent the two plants of the Niemeyer company, manufacturers of agricultural equipment, in the municipality.

Literature: Meijer, 1940; second explanation from Jörg Verlage, Riesenbeck
