The greem castle symbolise the former castle in the municipality, which was built by Frankish Crusaders in the reconquest of Lisbon. The castle is green (Verde) as a canting symbol for the Frankish (Francos) castle (Vila). The fleur-de-lis, being the symbol of the French Royal family, was added as a further reference. The grapes symbolise the importance of viticulture for the parish.
