===Origin/meaning===
The Crest is that for Regiments and Separate Battalions of the Texas Army National Guard.
Oriental blue and silver gray are the colors traditionally used by Military Intelligence. The griffin embodies vigilance, alertness and courage, reflecting the unit's motto and mission. Black and white symbolize overt and covert operations and the night and day, twenty-four hour mission of Military Intelligence. The star highlights the motto and represents the home area of the battalion, Texas.

The Coat of Arms and Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 10 October 1996.
