The arms were supposedly granted in 1307, but no proof thereof exists. The helmet and mantling were added in 1628 when the arms were again granted by Emperor Ferdinand II. | |||
Mělník was an important imperial city in medieval times and the arms thus show the lion of Bohemia and the Imperial eagle. Whether or not the arms have been granted i 1307, they have not changed since. | |||
