The family ruled the village until 1525 when it was acquired by the city of Basel. <br/>
Pratteln had no historical seals or arms. The only village symbol is a rose or other 8-petalled flower, which is used in a book from 1678. Whether it was the actual symbol or simply a decoration is not known. In 1928 the local council thus decided to adopt the arms of the Lords of Eptingen as its arms. To avoid confusion with the arms of the castle and family of Eptingen, the black bordure was added in 1938.
