+Vila Nova de Gaia is one of the oldest cities in Portugal, which is symbolised by the watchtower, flanked by the oldest arms of the Kings, a blue shield with eleven coins. The base shows the Douro river, whereas the two grape leaves symbolise that Vila Nova de Gaia is the centre of the port wine industry.
